Video Codecs on ARM Cortex™ A8/A9/A5
Overview
Ittiam's video codecs on the ARM Cortex™ architecture, including
the Cortex A8, Cortex A9 and Cortex A5 series, provide best in class performance utilizing
advanced features of ARM's v7 architecture.
The codecs have been designed to make optimal use of the NEON™
advanced SIMD processing engine available in the Cortex family. Based on Ittiam's field proven
reference C models, the video codecs maximally utilize architectural features such as the high
efficiency superscalar pipeline, 128 bit integer vector processing (NEON) and L1 and L2 cache
configurations.
Additionally, the video codecs have been designed keeping in view advanced
multi core implementations of the ARM v7 architecture available in the Cortex A9 series. The
video decoders and encoders are designed to support a configurable number of cores out of the
available cores in a muti core Cortex A9 design.
The video codecs on ARM Cortex A8, Cortex A9 and Cortex A5 are supplemented
with a comprehensive suite of system software for fast time-to-market of next generation,
